BCTS Review

In February 2025, the B.C. government launched a review of BC Timber Sales (BCTS) to ensure British Columbia’s forestry sector is continually evolving to overcome challenges and create a guideline for a stronger, more resilient future. An expert task force was assigned to support the review and included First Nation RPF, Lenny Joe, member of the Nlaka’pamux First Nation and CEO of the First Nations Forestry Council.

Currently, BCTS manages 20% of the province’s allowable annual cut for Crown/public timber and operates in 33 communities throughout BC. Minister Parmar has indicated that he is open to a bold approach for the review and there is hope from many that this review will set BC on a fresh path forward to a more modern and inclusive future in forestry.

Extensive engagements with First Nations, industry, government and others have taken place over the first half of 2025 and invitations to submit feedback have been ongoing since February. Actions stemming from the review are planned to begin in summer 2025.
